34% of Brits claim their wedding wasn’t the best day of their lives, but why?

With so much preparation and anticipation leading up to the big day, the pressure of arranging a perfect wedding can sometimes take the joy out of it. In fact, 53% of married people had wedding day regrets. According to a new study, 34% of married couples in the UK said their special day wasn’t the best day of their lives.
The average cost of a UK wedding falls between £20,000-£24,000, a considerable amount to spend on one day, so it’s important to get as much right as possible and have no regrets afterwards. To help assist engaged partners on the main elements of a wedding that can cause problems, thortful found the biggest event regrets.
More than one in 10 (13%) said they would change their guestlist, and if they could uninvite people, they would. People being too drunk (7%) and the menu being a let down (7%) also caused issues, whilst guests not getting on with each other and the wrong seating plan (6%), nightmare venues (5%) and a bad DJ (5%) followed. After pinpointing the biggest wedding regrets, thortful also asked married couples what their key advice would be after experiencing their own wedding. Topping the list, more than a third (34%) recommend brides and grooms to not get too drunk and forget the day. After so much work is involved in arranging the event, staying steady with the booze is one of the most important factors.
In second place is getting ready time, 33% said the wedding party should give themselves as much time as possible in the morning, to not feel rushed. Other recommendations include minimising picture taking time to give guests more attention (22%).
Beauty routines are a huge part of the day for most, and to avoid disappointment, brides advise that you get a dress fitting the week before in case it needs any tweaks (20%), and they also suggest that make-up artists are recommended or previously known, so to avoid any disasters on the day (18%).
Staying on your feet also proves to be a popular theme, as 22% say to test your shoes before hand as they may squeak or be slippy. Whilst one in 10 (12%) suggest people practice their aisle walk a few times on location to be ready for the real thing.

The expectation, pressure and money involved for it to be flawless can take over, but it’s important to focus on enjoyment as much as possible.
