Real Life Weddings: Mandy & David

Dominican Republic

After meeting in the first year at Portsmouth University, David and Mandy knew they were destined to be together forever and eight years later, they said “I do” in dream wedding destination, the Dominican Republic.

The proposal…

After asking Mandy’s parents for their permission to marry her, David suggested they take a stroll in the snow to Dunorlan; their favourite Tunbridge Wells park. The view was breathtaking and they practically had the park to themselves.

After telling Mandy that he had a surprise for her and that he kept her waiting long enough, David got down on one knee and presented a beautiful diamond ring, but before he could pop the question, Mandy shrieked yes!

On the day Mandy wore…

For the ceremony: an ivory, organza, Mori Lee wedding dress from Fross Wedding Collections in Uckfield, with a sweetheart neckline. The ruffled skirt and flower corsage set the tone nicely for a destination wedding.

In her hair, Mandy wore a two-tiered veil, subtly decorated with crystals and a flower diamante headpiece. For the evening celebrations, Mandy changed into an ivory strapless Mori Lee dress, with decorative diamante at the top and buttons at the back.

The bridesmaids wore…

Strapless Mori Lee dresses in cantaloupe with a matching coral flower in their hair and starfish necklaces. The flower girl wore a white dress from BHS with a flower corsage and matching white flowers in her hair.

David wore…

A light grey suit by tom english from Suit Direct, accessorised with a double, white cuff shirt with a silver satin waistcoat and a coral, satin cravat. David also wore Mother of Pearl cufflinks, which were a gift from his parents.

The ceremony…

The couple decided to tie the knot abroad and fell in love with 5-star resort, Dreams La Romana in Dominican Republic. The sun was beaming and the deep blue sea glistened behind the Garden Gazebo, which was beautifully decorated with white drapes tied with coral ribbon.

The ceremony was read by a local judge in Spanish and was translated into English by the couple’s wedding planner Jenny Goicoechea.

Nineteen close friends and family shared their special day and showered the couple with confetti and bubbles as they walked back down the aisle as husband and wife.

The celebrations…

While the couple were posing for their photos, guests were serenaded by the Caribbean Trio and enjoyed a cocktail party and nibbles. After a quick dress change, Mandy and David rejoined their guests at the Seaside Deck and Mandy followed tradition by throwing her bouquet, which was caught by her bridesmaid and sister Stevie. After taking off Mandy’s garter using his teeth, David flicked the garter into the eager crowd of male guests and Mandy’s youngest brother Aaron caught it.

A delicious four-course meal was served and throughout dinner came the speeches. The happy couple were given wedding cards from their family and friends from home.

Personal touches…

The couple’s colour theme throughout was coral. Mandy brought from home her own coral chair cover ties, table runner, butterfly candles, butterfly social stirrers tied to a coral feather, fans for guests, coral table crystals and name place cards, and gave them to Jenny, who decorated the evening table beautifully.

For favours, ladies received beach themed, wine glass charms in an organza coral bag and the boys received a starfish bottle opener.

Honeymoon…

The couple plan on going back to the Caribbean next March to celebrate their first anniversary.
